Advisory Board

The following six members of the advisory board brought a wealth of expertise in student services to the project:

American Counseling Association (ACA)

The American Counseling Association is a professional and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. Founded in 1952, ACA is the world's largest association exclusively representing professional counselors in various practice settings. By providing leadership training, publications, continuing education opportunities, and advocacy services to nearly 55,000 members, ACA helps counseling professionals develop their skills and expand their knowledge base.

Donna Ford

Donna Ford, NCC, LPC, Past President, ACA

Donna Ford has been a professional counselor for almost 25 years. She recently retired from Clackamas Community College in Oregon where she had worked as a counselor since 1979. She has received several awards for exceptional service including the 1999 Professional Leadership award from the American College Counseling Association.


The ACRL, a division of the American Library Association, is a professional association of academic librarians and other interested individuals. It is dedicated to enhancing the ability of academic library and information professionals to serve the information needs of the higher education community and to improve learning, teaching, and research.

Elizabeth Dupuis

Elizabeth Dupuis, MLIS Member, ACRL President's Task Force on the Educational Role of Libraries

Elizabeth Dupuis is head of Instructional Services, University of California, Berkeley. She received her BA and MLIS from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Prior to this position, she was Head of the Digital Information Literacy Office at the University of Texas at Austin and project manager for the TILT web-based library skills tutorial. She serves on the ACRL Instruction Section, Institute for Information Literacy's Best Practices Advisory Board, and editorial boards of Public Services Quarterly and Research Strategies.


 

Corporate University Xchange, Inc. is a New York City-based corporate education research and consulting firm that assists organizations in optimizing their learning resources. Corporate University Xchange (CUX) offers a wide array of services, including: consulting , research, conferences, and customized training for chief learning officers and their staff. CUX also publishes the newsletter Corporate Universities International, and the CUX WebLetter. CUX is recognized internationally as the leading expert on corporate universities and the firm’s president, Jeanne C. Meister, has authored the definitive book, Corporate Universities: Lessons In Building A World-Class Work Force (McGraw-Hill, 1998).

Brenda Velez
Senior Research Analyst

Brenda Velez designs and develops survey questionnaires and conducts interviews with best practice corporate universities. She served as a member of the team that researched, analyzed and wrote the findings for the Survey of Corporate University Future Directions and the “Chief Learning Officer Operational Audit.”


The High Tech Center Training Unit of the California Community Colleges is a state-of-the-art training and support facility for community college faculty wishing to acquire or improve teaching skills, methodologies, and pedagogy in assistive and instructional computer technology. Now entering its twelfth year of operation, the High Tech Center Training Unit carries out extensive research, testing and evaluation of new and emerging technologies of potential benefit to persons with disabilities.

Carl Brown

Carl Brown, MS
Director, High Tech Center Training Unit

Carl Brown is director of the High Tech Center Training Unit of the California Community Colleges in Cupertino, CA. In this capacity, he directs a statewide program providing research, evaluation, training, and support in the use of assistive computer technology for faculty and staff of California's 107 community colleges.


The National Academic Advising Association grew out of the first National Conference on Academic Advising in 1977 and now has over 4700 members representing all 50 states, Canada, Puerto Rico, and five other foreign countries.

Tom Kerr

Thomas Kerr, PhD
Charter Member and Past President, NACADA

Tom Kerr is Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management for Campus Group International. Previously he served as associate vice president of enrollment management at Fairleigh Dickinson University, dean of the College of Evening and Professional Studies at Drexel University, associate provost for academic services at Rowan University, and associate dean of academic and student affairs at Boston University. He has written numerous articles and publications on advising issues.


 

National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA)

NASPA, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, is the leading national association for college and university student affairs administrators. Since its inception in 1918, student affairs administrators have turned to NASPA as a resource for professional development opportunities and information on current issues affecting campus policies and students' needs.

Gary Kleeman

Gary Kleemann, PhD
Chair, NASPA Task Force on Distance Learning

Gary Kleemann has spent the last 30 years as an administrator in student affairs, business affairs and academic affairs, as well as a researcher and teacher in higher education. He currently serves as the director of e-learning at Arizona State University East where he is also an adjunct faculty member.
