Dowload this form as a Word document

This exercise can be helpful in identifying the components of academic advising and prioritizing them.

First brainstorm the components or activities involved in academic advising at your institution. List the components and assign two rankings from 1 to 4, with 1 being the lowest, for each component to evaluate HOW WELL your institution does the component and HOW IMPORTANT it is to your institution.

An example is shown below in gray.

Plot the list number of each component in the quadrant below along the axes according to the rankings.

Your institution may want to focus on the components that fall in the bottom right quadrant — those that are important but are not done well.

In the example, numbers 3, 4, 8 and 9 are the most imporant but not done well so they would be the priorities.
