Workshops in e-Student Services

Whether you want to build general awareness about best practices in e-student services among your staff or you want to develop a strategic plan for improving or expanding your campus services, a workshop can help you get your initiatives off to a good start.

Based on your needs, we will design a workshop or series of workshops to help you accomplish your goals.  The focus can be on a single student service area or multiple areas and for a single institution or members of a consortium.

Depending on your budget, we can conduct a workshop at your location or via webcast.

Best Practices in Student Services Online: Providing Experiences that Support Learners Workshop A WCET and Higher Learning Commission Joint Workshop

June 7-9, 2006
Lisle, Illinois

Higher Learning Commission logo

In its new Criteria, The Higher Learning Commission (HLC) of North Central Accrediting (NCA) speaks directly to learning environments, the engagement of students, and the support services necessary for student success. Increasingly, the majority of students, including those studying through distance education, expect to access institutions through online resources and services. Through this joint workshop, the Commission and WCET provide a forum for teams to critically examine eight key online services students use and to explore and adapt good practices that will enhance these services. Lead presenters and mentors will provide participants with an overview of good practices and findings based on WCET audits of student services online. Putting Student Services Online: A Planning Retreat Kapi’olani Community College, Honolulu, HI

WCET designed and conducted a two-day retreat for the student services staff of Kapi’olani Community College. Attendees participated in a series of discussions, presentations, and activities to build awareness about best practices in student services and to begin formulating a vision for comprehensive online services designed from the student’s point of view. This event served as a kick-off for a FIPSE-funded project to create new services online that resulted in a portal prototype for learner support services to be implemented with the deployment of the new Student Information System (SIS).
